A note from one Martha to another
I didn’t create The Fire Collective because I finally figured out how to do less.
That would be a terrible origin story because I’m still really good at doing. 😂
I’m naturally task-first. I see what needs to happen, make a plan and start moving. Give me responsibility and I will probably find a spreadsheet for it.
But years ago, while I was growing as a leader in ministry, three volunteers told my pastor that they felt like I cared more about getting the work done than I cared about them.
That hurt.
Not because I didn’t love them. I did.
But loving people and intentionally showing people they are loved are not always the same thing.
That moment exposed something God has continued teaching me ever since: good intentions do not automatically create an intentional life.
Neither does being productive.
I have had to learn to stop. To listen. To play. To surrender control. To sit in God's presence without turning even that into another box to check.
And somewhere along the way, I stopped believing that becoming more like Mary meant becoming less like Martha.
God made me a builder. A leader. A doer. A woman who sees what needs to happen.
I don't need Him to erase that.
I need Him to lead it.
That is what The Fire Collective is about.
Creating room to know God, hear Him, enjoy the life He has given us and then go build what He actually asked us to build.
Dwell first. Then do.
